Qualifications

  1. You must be a current member of the New England Morgan Horse Association at the time of application and indicate how many years you have been a member.
  2. You must be actively involved with Morgan horses.
  3. You must be attending college in an undergraduate or graduate program, a vocational school, or an apprentice program in the fall.
  4.  Please complete this application and include two letters of recommendation. One must be from a NEMHA member.
  5.  If selected, proof of completion of your first semester must be submitted before the money is awarded. Scholarship funds will be sent directly to the given institution.
  6. Winner/s will be notified by phone, mail or email by July 15 and should plan to attend the presentation ceremony at the Monday evening session.
  7. You may apply for this award multiple times, but may only win twice.

 
 
New England Morgan Horse Association Announces $100,000 Endowment for The New England Morgan Horse Association Sharon Clark Scholarship

May 15,2026 — The New England Morgan Horse Association (NEMHA) is honored to announce a $100,000 endowment establishing The New England Morgan Horse Association Sharon Clark Scholarship, a new initiative dedicated to supporting continuing education.

This generous gift, donated by Wayne Clark, honors the memory of his wife, Sharon Clark, a devoted member of NEMHA and a passionate advocate for the Morgan horse. Sharon’s love for the breed, her kindness, caring, and commitment to the Morgan community left a lasting impact on all who knew her.

In the late 1980s, Sharon worked at Green Meads Farm in Richmond, Massachusetts. It was there that her lifelong connection to the Morgan horse began. When Sebring Stables moved into the Green Meads facility, Sharon immersed herself in the world of Morgans, taking lessons and showing horses under the guidance of Harry and Carolyn Sebring.

After a back injury temporarily forced her to step away from riding, Sharon’s determination led her in a new direction—driving horses. Refusing to leave the barn behind, she embraced harness driving and soon found great success. In 1998, Harry identified C Vale Independence (Indy), a talented young Morgan, and together, Sharon and Indy developed an extraordinary partnership.

From 1999 to 2002, Sharon and Indy achieved remarkable success on the NEMHA circuit. Their accomplishments included the 1999 NEMHA Circuit Open Pleasure Driving Reserve Championship and the 2001 NEMHA Circuit Ladies Classic and Classic Pleasure Driving Championships—testaments to Sharon’s dedication, resilience, and horsemanship.

The NEMHA Sharon Clark Scholarship will provide financial assistance to individuals pursuing continued education, helping recipients further their academic and professional goals while carrying forward Sharon’s legacy.

“We are deeply grateful to Wayne Clark for this meaningful contribution,” said Carolyn Sebring, President of NEMHA. “Sharon Clark’s passion, perseverance, kindness, and love for the Morgan horse will continue to inspire future generations through this scholarship.”

The scholarship will be presented for the first time on July 20, at the 2026 New England Morgan Horse Show, marking a significant addition to the association’s efforts to invest in education and the future of its community.

Connecticut Morgan Horse Association Scholarships & Grants:

Eileen Hunter Youth Scholarship
Eileen Hunter loved Morgan Horses and youth! She was an active member of the American, New England, and Connecticut Morgan Horse Associations and volunteered with countless youth organizations. To honor her memory CMHA created The Eileen Hunter Youth Scholarship. This scholarship offers a one-time $1000 payment to students who are currently enrolled in a full-time undergraduate program (any major) or an equine-specific apprenticeship program. All scholarships are awarded at the Connecticut Morgan Open Horse Show.

Sue Brander Sport Horse Award
Sue Brander was passionate about her Morgan sport horses! The Sue Brander grant was created to celebrate her passion for the versatility of the Morgan breed while providing students and young professionals with financial resources to further their equine education! All grants are awarded at the Connecticut Morgan Open Horse Show.

CMHA Student Achievement Grant
This $1,000 grant is designed to support a dedicated lesson student in participating in the Connecticut Morgan Horse Show by helping cover show-related expenses.
We are looking for a rider/driver of any age who demonstrates: • Hard work and dedication in their lesson program • A passion for horsemanship and the Morgan horse • Positive attitude and sportsmanship • Financial need that may otherwise limit participation
Applicants must be actively taking lessons and be recommended by their trainer or instructor.
This award celebrates not only achievement, but the partnership between student and horse, and a love for the Morgan community.
Allowable uses include: horse show entry fees, class fees, stall fees, required show office fees, cost of lodging, training fees, horse transportation fees, and other reasonable costs directly related to entering the show. The grant funds are not to be used for the purchase of show clothing, tack, or other material equipment related to showing, riding, or driving.
Applicants who ride a lesson horse, have a leased horse, or own their own horse may apply.
Whenever possible, funds will be paid directly to the show secretary, trainer, or lesson program responsible for the student’s entry.

Vermont Morgan Horse Association

W. Lyman Orcutt, Jr. Memorial Scholarship Application

W. Lyman Orcutt Scholarship Award

The Vermont Morgan Horse Association, Inc. encourages excellence in its members by providing the W. Lyman Orcutt, Jr. Scholarship Award each year to one or more outstanding men or women who would like to continue their education. The scholarship provides at least one $500 scholarship annually. The scholarship will be paid to the recipient and the education program they are enrolled in by July 15th of that current year. The program is open to any man or woman who is a Vermont resident and a member in good standing of the Vermont Morgan Horse Association, Inc.

Considered important and selection to be based on the following:

  • Being a VMHA Member
  • Being a Vermont resident
  • Involvement with the Morgan Horse
  • Youth club participation
  • Volunteerism
  • Most recent scholastic achievement
  • Leadership
  • Three letters of reference (non-family) relevant to character ability, achievement, and Morgan involvement

USEF National Youth Sportsman’s Award

The primary goals of the US Equestrian National Youth Sportsman’s Award is to identify future leaders within the equine industry from across all breeds and disciplines and distinguish outstanding youth for their achievements.

Individuals 17 or younger, as of December 1 of the current competition year, who are active members in good standing with US Equestrian and their Recognized National Affiliate are eligible to apply. Applicants are expected to demonstrate an ongoing commitment and dedication to the promotion of equestrian sport, serve as a positive role model for peers, and exhibit characteristics that exemplify positive sportsmanship principles. Community involvement in equestrian activities as well as involvement at any level of competition (Local, Regional, or National) are additional requirements applicants must meet.

The overall winner of the US Equestrian National Youth Sportsman Award receives a commemorative trophy, $1,000 grant payable to the educational program of choice. The reserve winner receives a $500 grant payable to the educational program of choice.

The application process runs from May 1st- August 15th of each year. Completed applications should be submitted to the appropriate US Equestrian Recognized National Affiliate. Please refer to the National Youth Sportsman’s Award Guidelines document for more detailed information.

USEF Higher Education Equestrian Scholarship for graduating High School Seniors

US Equestrian offers two $2,500 scholarships for High School Seniors preparing to enter a College or University. Scholarship funds are provided to students interested in furthering his or her equestrian knowledge and skills throughout college. Applicants must continue to be involved in equestrian related experiences throughout college to be considered. This can be through an equestrian-related degree or classes, participation in an intercollegiate equestrian team or club, an equestrian related internship, job, volunteer work, or any other proven commitment to continued involvement and education in equestrian sport. Scholarship funds will be awarded directly to the recipient’s educational institution.

Students must be active competing or subscribing members of USEF and preparing to enter a college or university in the fall of the current competition year. An essay, at least one reference from an individual within the horse industry, and a completed application are required. Scholarship applications are available in the “Applications” section below. To be considered for this scholarship, a completed application along with the required materials must be submited to the USEF office on or before the July 31st deadline.
